Sport

INTRODUCTION

Sport is a common study for all students. It provides them with an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports in a competitive environment. Sport Education is a component of Physical Education that includes the development of sport skills, an understanding of the origins and rules of various sports and an appreciation of codes of behaviour.

Purpose

Students will be able to:

  • Learn the values of self-discipline, accept decisions, sportspersonship, fair play and teamwork.
  • Gain from the benefits of performing in a team-orientated situation.
  • Develop motor skills and fitness to a level which allows safe and enjoyable participation.
  • Gain knowledge about the values of physical activity and enhance lifelong participation.

Areas of Study

Athletics
Students are able to participate in the House Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals and train with the School Athletics Team to improve in an area of interest and be considered for selection in the EISM Athletics Teams.

Aquatics
Students are able to participate in the House Swimming Carnival and train with the School Swimming Team to improve in an area of interest and be considered for selection in the EISM Swimming Team.

Competitive sport
Students will have the opportunity to represent Kingswood in the EISM competitions. Students who are selected in one of these teams are required to have the correct uniform and necessary safety equipment.

Recreation activities
A variety of sports are offered for students who are not selected in an EISM Team. These activities enable students to develop their skill level and fitness components.

Requirements

Students must participate in either a competitive sport or recreation activity each term.

Attendance at all selections, trainings and games is compulsory.

Written permission is required in cases of injury, illness or non-participation.
