By Kingswood College
Starting her career as a Kindergarten Teacher, Anne moved to Fiji and opened the first multi-racial kindergarten. Working closely with Fijian feminists, she established the Young Women’s Christian Association and was deeply involved in early childhood education, women’s human rights, and public affairs advocacy. She once described these years as very happy but very busy!
As an avid supporter of equal rights for women, her passion for action led her assisting in the establishment of the International Women's Tribune Centre in New York and writing the book "A World of Change: My Life in the Global Women's Movement".
Dr. Walker used her voice to drive change across the world, and though she is no longer with us, her legacy continues to inspire.
Principal Chrissy Gamble and College Archivist Sue Harriage attended the Funeral on behalf of the College community. Our heartfelt condolences to Anne’s family and friends, including her sister Frances Millar (nee Walker).
Charles Fitzroy Walker was the Principal of Box Hill Grammar School (now Kingswood College) from 1936–1972. His long tenure was marked by significant developments, including the introduction of co-education and expansion of facilities. Our Senior School building is named in honour of his contribution to our school's history.
At Kingswood College we proudly work to fulfil our vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds in a nurturing environment, on land that holds deep cultural significance to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge and honour their Elders, past and present, and extend our respect to all First Nations people. Whenever we gather, and wherever we gather, we extend respect and dignity to the first inhabitants of our country and acknowledge the truth about the country on which our school has stood and now stands.
