Division 1 involves schools with over four times as many Secondary students than Kingswood. If it were a competition based on the number of Secondary students, we would finish dead last. So why are we in this top division? Because we have a mix of strong swimmers and kids who turn up and give everything they have for the College. Examples of how our students demonstrate our school values of respect, perseverance, excellence, kindness and courage are seen everywhere on a day like this.
We won the Division 2 Carnival in 2020 and have been able to stick in the top Division since.
Lots of people think this is amazing. The other schools at the Div 1 event think it’s amazing. The EISM Executive Officer and her team think it’s amazing.
A team of 46 students competed against most of the best swimmers from Eastern Independent Schools in Melbourne, holding their own at every stage of the event. There were only a handful of changes leading up to the carnival, so I was very happy with the team we were putting in the water and confident that we would turn some heads.
After all events were finished, we eagerly awaited the final results. As they read from 8th to 1st, there was a collective stir when we didn’t hear our name as the 8th or 7th placed school. When we didn’t hear ‘Kingswood’ as the 6th place finisher, I realised we had just recorded our highest place finish in Div 1 Swimming ever. 5th place overall is an amazing accomplishment.
In addition to this, we were announced as the Most Improved School from 2024-2025! We had 198 more points than we did in 2024.
Thanks to the Kingswood staff who attended the event, students who helped with timing duties, parents who came to support the team, and most of all the students who proudly represented the College.
At Kingswood College we proudly work to fulfil our vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds in a nurturing environment, on land that holds deep cultural significance to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge and honour their Elders, past and present, and extend our respect to all First Nations people. Whenever we gather, and wherever we gather, we extend respect and dignity to the first inhabitants of our country and acknowledge the truth about the country on which our school has stood and now stands.
