At Kingswood College, our commitment to child safety extends beyond policies and procedures—we strive to create a culture where all children and young people feel safe, valued, and heard. Child Safe Standard 3 focuses on ensuring students understand their rights, feel supported by their peers, and have opportunities to actively participate in shaping a safe and inclusive school environment.

Empowering Students Through Knowledge

One of the most effective ways to keep children safe is to empower them with knowledge. Students have the right to safety, information, and participation, and we are committed to ensuring they understand these rights. This includes knowing what appropriate adult behaviour looks like, how to raise concerns, and where to access support services if needed.

The Importance of Friendships and Peer Support

Feeling connected to peers is a critical protective factor for young people. At Kingswood College, we encourage students to build strong, supportive friendships, recognising that peer support helps children feel safer and less isolated. We also promote strategies to challenge bullying and exclusion, fostering a culture of inclusion and respect.

Providing Access to Relevant Information

Where appropriate, we ensure students receive age-appropriate education on personal safety, including resources that help them recognise and respond to unsafe situations.

Encouraging Student Voice and Participation

A truly child-safe environment is one where students feel confident to express their views and concerns. We provide child-friendly ways for students to speak up, participate in decision-making, and contribute to shaping school policies and practices. Their insights help us continually improve our approach to child safety.

Supporting Staff and Volunteers

Ensuring that all staff and volunteers understand the signs of harm and know how to respond appropriately is essential. Ongoing training supports them in noticing potential risks, facilitating meaningful conversations with students, and fostering a school culture where every child feels safe and respected.

At Kingswood College, we are committed to creating a school environment where student voices matter, friendships are nurtured, and every young person feels empowered to speak up. Together, we continue to strengthen our child-safe culture.
