Where Growth, Engagement, and Evidence Meet
This week we were proud to share that Kingswood College has been ranked among the Top 30 private primary schools in Victoria.
But, as always, what matters most is why.
This recognition reflects a deliberate and consistent approach to teaching and learning. At its core is our commitment to the Science of Learning, ensuring that what we do in classrooms is grounded in how students learn best. A key part of this is explicit teaching. Our teachers carefully model new learning, provide guided practice, and support students to build knowledge and skills with clarity and confidence. This structured approach helps ensure that all students have strong foundations on which to build. Equally important is our use of flexible grouping. Students are not confined to fixed ability groups; instead, they move according to their learning needs, informed by ongoing assessment. This allows us to provide targeted ‘just right’ support when it’s needed and extension when students are ready, maximising both growth and engagement. These practices are strengthened by a focus on evidence-informed strategies and together, they help ensure that learning is not only engaging in the moment but retained over time. As a co-educational ELC–Year 12 school on one campus, our students benefit from a connected and coherent journey. They are known by their teachers, supported through their development, and experience a continuity of care and expectation from their earliest years through to the end of year 12.
This recognition affirms the strength of a balanced approach and one that values academic rigour, student wellbeing, and the importance of truly knowing each child. And while rankings are interesting, it is the growth of each individual student, every day, that remains our greatest measure of success.
