Academic Extension & Support

At Kingswood College, our personalised learning commitment celebrates and supports students at both ends of the spectrum, those requiring enrichment and extension, plus those requiring additional assistance or targeted intervention.

Thrive at Kingswood

Thrive offers enhanced academic support for students in Years 7–12 three evenings a week.

This year, we are excited to introduce a new layer of support through specialised workshops facilitated by high-achieving Kingswood alumni. These alumni mentors, who have recently completed their VCE studies, bring firsthand experience and up-to-date knowledge of subject content, study strategies, and exam preparation. They will be running focused, subject-specific workshops in the lead-up to Assessment Tasks and SACs, helping students in Years 11 and 12 prepare with confidence and clarity. Workshop availability is tailored to the strengths and availability of our alumni mentors, and sessions will be advertised in advance via Compass.

In addition to workshops, the Individual Differences Team—comprising familiar education support staff who regularly assist in classrooms and many of whom are training as future teachers—will be available during THRIVE sessions to offer personalised help. This includes support with homework, organisation, time management, and general study skills across all year levels.

All students from Years 7 to 12 are warmly encouraged to attend THRIVE, whether they are seeking individual help, preparing for a major assessment, or simply looking for a productive space to study alongside peers.

Our Gifted and Talented Programs, including our SEEK Program, support students who demonstrate exceptional abilities, providing them with enriching challenges tailored to their individual learning profiles. Our Individual Differences Team collaborates with students, staff, and families to provide strength-based programs, strategies, and support so that every student can experience success at school.

In 2025, 25% of our Year 7 cohort consisted of gifted students, identifying that we are becoming a leader in this space.

This progress has been accelerated by Ms Gamble’s leadership, who herself completed a Master's Degree in Education, specialising in supporting young people who are Gifted and Talented to excel in the critical schooling years.

Our Heads of Individual Difference work closely with our committed staff across the College to spearhead initiatives rooted in evidence-based practices, fostering an environment where students at all points in the learning continuum can flourish. By amalgamating support services for diverse learners, we aim to create a holistic and responsive approach to education.

At Kingswood College we proudly work to fulfil our vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds in a nurturing environment, on land that holds deep cultural significance to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge and honour their Elders, past and present, and extend our respect to all First Nations people. Whenever we gather, and wherever we gather, we extend respect and dignity to the first inhabitants of our country and acknowledge the truth about the country on which our school has stood and now stands.
