Instrumental Scholarship

For students commencing Years 5 to 11 in 2027 and 2028.

Instrumental Scholarships (including voice) at Kingswood College recognise students who demonstrate strong instrumental ability, musical discipline, and a commitment to performance and practice. These scholarships are designed for students with established technical proficiency who will contribute positively to the musical life of the College.

Scholarship applications close on Wednesday 2 September, 2026.

About the Instrumental Scholarship

Instrumental Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate a high standard of instrumental performance and musical understanding. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an audition and interview, supported by a review of the submitted application and portfolio. Successful applicants are expected to engage actively in the Kingswood College music programme and commit to ongoing musical development.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Applicants are expected to demonstrate:

  • Strong instrumental performance (includes voice) skills appropriate to their year level
  • Consistent practice habits and musical discipline
  • Commitment to performance and ensemble participation
  • Capacity to contribute positively to the musical culture of the College.

Minimum AMEB level for eligibility:

  • Brass AMEB Grade 3 or equivalent
  • Percussion AMEB Grade 4 or equivalent
  • Piano AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent
  • Strings including guitar and harp AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent
  • Woodwind AMEB Grade 3 or equivalent

Applicants are also assessed on their submitted portfolio.

How Applications are Assessed

Instrumental Scholarships are awarded through a multistage assessment process that includes:

  • Review of the submitted application, portfolio and supporting documents
  • Assessment of AMEB (or equivalent) results, instrumental awards and other evidence of musical achievement
  • Attendance at an audition, where applicants will demonstrate their instrumental ability
  • Shortlisting based on audition performance and the submitted portfolio
  • Interview with the Principal for shortlisted applicants
  • Final scholarship decisions made at the Principal’s discretion.
     

Applicants will be provided with their audition time and must be available to attend the audition as scheduled.

Required Application Documents

As part of the application process, applicants must upload the following:

  • A copy of the student’s birth certificate
     
  • Evidence of Australian citizenship or permanent residency if applicable
     
  • Copies of the student’s two most recent school reports
     
  • A copy of the student’s most recent NAPLAN results (if applicable)
     
  • Copies of any awards or certificates for musical achievement.

Scholarship Value and Conditions

Instrumental Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Principal and offer a part tuition fee remission. The scholarship applies for the duration of the student’s education at Kingswood College, subject to ongoing commitment, engagement, and satisfactory academic progress.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents
  • Applicants must be a current Year 4 – 10 student for entry in 2027 or a current Year 3 - 9 student for entry in 2028.
  • Applications are open to new and current Kingswood College students
