From The Principal

So Much to be Grateful For…

Term 3 has been one of those terms that reminds me of what makes a school community so special. It has been busy, certainly, but when I look back over the past nine weeks, I think of much more than a long list of events, performances, competitions, camps and meetings. I reflect upon students finding their voice, discovering new interests, testing themselves, working together and, importantly, growing.

There have been so many moments to celebrate. Our students for Productions, Choral Spectacular and musical performance evenings. They have competed in athletics, cross country, chess and debating, represented Kingswood College with pride and challenged themselves through Science Week, Book Week and Model United Nations. Our Year 9 students gave their time to others through Service Week, while our Year 10 students headed off on camp. Across the College, there have been tours, showcases, excursions, camps, reunions and opportunities for students and families to connect with one another.

And then there have been moments that almost never appear on a calendar. A student who finally finds the confidence to try a new club. A teacher who takes the time to check in with a student who looked like they were having a bad day. A new friendship that is formed. A child who discovers that they are capable of even more than they thought. A Year 12 student beginning to realise that their time at Kingswood is drawing to a close. A Prep student reaching another little milestone in their first 100 days of school. These are the moments that make a school hum. One of the great privileges of being a Principal is being able to see the College from many different vantage points. I see it in classrooms, on the sporting field, in performances, at assemblies and sometimes simply while walking around our beautiful green campus. I see the extraordinary amount of care that our staff bring to their work every day, often in ways that families never see. I see students learning not only from their teachers, but also from one another.

This term has also been a reminder that education is a combination of so many elements. It is about developing young people who are willing to have a go, who can persevere when things are difficult, who know how to work with others and who understand that their actions have an impact beyond themselves. Our 2026 theme of accountability has been particularly evident this term. Accountability is not simply about being responsible for what we do when someone is watching. It is about developing the character to take responsibility when no one is watching. It is about owning our choices, looking out for others and understanding that we each have a part to play in creating the kind of community in which we want to live and learn.

As Term 3 comes to a close, I am struck by just how much has happened in nine weeks. But I am even more struck by how much growth can happen in that time. A special mention goes to our Year 12 students, who will spend part of the break completing their practice examinations. I know how much work has already gone into this year, and I hope they approach the examinations with confidence and a belief in what they know. Practice examinations are an opportunity to learn, refine and discover where a little more preparation might be needed. Most importantly, I hope our Year 12s also find time over the break to rest, recharge and spend time with the people who have supported them along the way.

To our students, thank you for the energy, curiosity, courage and pure awesomeness you bring to Kingswood. To our staff, thank you for the extraordinary work you do, both visible and unseen. And to our families, thank you for the many ways you support your children and our College. I hope the break provides an opportunity to slow down, reconnect and enjoy some time together. There is always another term ahead, another challenge to meet and another opportunity to learn. But for now, it is worth pausing to appreciate the term that has been.
