The Importance of Giving Back
THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING BACK
One of the greatest things about working in a school is witnessing young people discover that they have the capacity to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
In a world that often encourages us to focus on individual achievement, it is important that we also teach our students the value of contribution. Academic success, sporting accomplishments and artistic pursuits are all important, but so too is developing a sense of responsibility towards others and a commitment to serving the wider community. Giving back helps young people develop empathy, gratitude and perspective. It allows them to see beyond their own experiences and understand that even small acts of kindness can have a significant impact. Whether it is raising funds for a worthy cause, supporting a local charity, volunteering their time, participating in environmental initiatives or simply helping someone in need, service provides valuable opportunities for personal growth.
At Kingswood College, our vision is to embolden hearts and inspire minds. Service opportunities help us achieve both. They encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, connect with others and develop the confidence that comes from making a meaningful contribution and giving generously. Through service, students learn that leadership is not about status or position; it is about action, compassion and a willingness to support others. As a College, we are fortunate to offer a range of opportunities for students to become involved in service activities throughout the year. These experiences not only benefit those receiving support but also enrich the lives of our students. Research consistently shows that people who contribute to their communities experience greater wellbeing, stronger relationships and a deeper sense of purpose.
I encourage all members of our community, particularly our students, to embrace opportunities to serve. The habits of generosity, kindness and community-mindedness that are developed during school years often become lifelong values. They help shape individuals who are not only capable and successful but who also understand the importance of making the world a better place.
As we continue through the year, I look forward to seeing our students engage with the many service opportunities available to them and demonstrate the values of respect, kindness, courage, perseverance and excellence through their actions.

At Kingswood College we proudly work to fulfil our vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds in a nurturing environment, on land that holds deep cultural significance to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge and honour their Elders, past and present, and extend our respect to all First Nations people. Whenever we gather, and wherever we gather, we extend respect and dignity to the first inhabitants of our country and acknowledge the truth about the country on which our school has stood and now stands.
